What up MK?! How you been lately?

Good brother. Working myself like a dawg. But good.

Tell our fans a little about your upbringing and how everything got started.

My childhood was rough at times. Growing up in some of the poorer neighborhoods in Texas. And my own personal issues made it that much harder for me. But I found an outlet for it all through comedy. I just always loved making people laugh. I was often depressed and angry as a kid. Though I never showed it. And when I made other people laugh I felt better. At least for a little while.

Were you always the class clown at school or the shy kid with a weird side no one knew about until your YouTube vids surfaced?

Oh wow yeah. Lol. I was always the funny kid. I wouldn’t call myself popular but I was liked. I was the one everyone could say they knew. But I was never in their groups. I never went to parties. Rarely went to other kids houses. I wasn’t exactly a big shot.

Who are some of your favorite comedians out there right now?

I like Kevin Hart. There’s a reason why he’s blowing up. Dude is hilarious.

We understand you’re pretty good friends with Hopsin of Funk Volume, how did that relationship form and do you plan on working together more in the future?

He was a fan of my videos and wanted me to do a video about him. At the time he was about as big as I am now. It’s a trip to think about how far he’s come. I am endlessly proud of him. And yes. I can’t speak on it now but yes. That’s my brother. We love working with each other.

Which “Loves” video was the first one ever and what type of response did it get from people?

The first Loves I ever did was about women. I wanted to tell jokes about the ignorant things women did in the hopes that they will hear what I said and listen to it and maybe NOT date the guy that’s been beating your ass for 2 years in front of your kids. That’s been my mission since day one. I want to make you laugh. Yes. But I also want you to think. People saw that and really responded to it. Some women stopped leaving their kids with their Grandmas and going to the club every single night. When I started getting messages like that I felt really accomplished.

We noticed you quit your day job to focus all of your attention of GZO, how tough was that decision to make? If at all?

It was actually a really easy decision. I had one of those jobs that just wore you down. Just everything about they job was awful. Literally everything. Lol. And it had gotten to a point where I had to choose what I really wanted to do with my life. So I chose.

Q&A with Director Director/Cinematographer Ryan Pinkall

What up Ryan, how have things been lately?!

What’s up man! Things have been going pretty good, new projects in the works, always just trying to keep it moving.

Tell our fans a little bit about where you’re from and how you got into cinematography?

I grew up in New Hampshire, and really started getting into it at around age 10, learning all the basics. Just having access to a camera around the house, I was pretty much immediately got hooked. Spent the next eight years in New Hampshire, doing videos for local artists and my own short films in that time being self taught, before moving down to Florida. I was that kid that took a video camera everywhere, literally everywhere, and just filming everything. For vacations, or anything like that I always liked taking short video clips, then editing them together instead of pictures and a slideshow.

Are there any specific directors / producers you look up to and/or model your style after?

Right now, not so much in feature films, I’ve just been watching a ton of music videos, but my favorite style is definitely more story-based and cinematic rather than strictly performance. I definitely plan to mess around with some different styles though. I wouldn’t say I model my style after anyone, but I definitely look up to people like Macklemore’s video team, Matt Alonzo, Aplusfilmz, and pretty much anyone else actually putting effort into being creative.

Our whole squad, and basically anyone who’s anyone, has seen Ill Mind of Hopsin 5. Describe how that whole thing came about and how its affected your career since its release.

Well, we definitely didn’t plan on it to go the way it did - Hopsin and I had already talked about doing a project together at some point, and I just happened to be in LA this summer and he said he needed help shooting a video the next week. I had met Mike and Jay of Wireside productions a couple weeks earlier at UCLA, where we were staying for the summer, and we were all ready to get to work. Hop had already painted his living room and dressed the set, so later that week we went to his house to hear the track, see the set and figure out the rest of the details with him. We shot it a coupe days later along with a couple promos, spent the next few days on editing and released it - none of us expected it to get the amount of attention it did, so it was definitely a lot to take in. Since then, I’ve just been continuing to work on new projects, just trying to stay focused and make the official move to LA this summer.

Who are some names out there, in any industry, that you really want to work with and why?

I definitely want to continue working with FV, along with Aplus and Wireside. As far as artists- there’s so many artists I’m a fan of, I don’t have one specific, type of hip-hop that I listen to all the time, I like the varieties- so there’s a lot of people I’m open to working with.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I’ll be out in LA with my team, more advanced, working on bigger projects
